Throughout Scotland there are many beautiful sites to visit to admire the country’s natural landscape.  I had the opportunity to venture to one of the most beautiful locations: the Isle of Skye.  The Isle of Skye was recently voted as the “4th Best Island in the World” by National Geographic and it certainly lives up to its title.

You are greeted by the cozy village of Kyleakin when you first cross onto the island from Skye Bridge. From there you can travel all throughout the island in search of marvels.  One of those views is located at the Old Man of Storr on the Totternish Peninsula.  Legend has it a couple who wished to be together forever were turned into large stones; one of which is still standing and embodies the husband.  Many will recall the area as a location that was used in the film Prometheus.  You can see for miles around after taking a hike up to the viewpoint.

Another gorgeous view can be found at Kilt Rock.  The sea cliff gets its name from its resemblance to the pleated, patterning of a kilt that the basalt creates.  A famous waterfall, Mealt Fall, can be seen flowing from Kilt Rock. Interestingly enough it is one of the few waterfalls on Earth the flows directly into the sea.

Lealt Falls is also another waterfall hidden away in the Lealt Gorge.  To reach it you must traverse a relatively steep hillside along paths that have been made by local sheep populations that live on the hill.  The view is absolutely worth it though once you reach a good viewpoint.  While these are only a handful of breathtaking views to see on the Isle of Skye, it is easy to understand how Skye is one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
