Throughout Italy, it’s easy to see so many naturally beautiful landscapes, from rolling hills to historical landmarks and the infamous coastlines of the Mediterranean Sea. I decided to take a day trip to Riomaggiore with my roommates one Sunday before classes started. Riomaggiore is one of the five cities in Cinque Terre. One of the most popular destinations in the world, this nautical town is a sight to see.

As soon as you step off the train, you walk through a tunnel that leads you to the entrance of Riomaggiore. Immediately, you are greeted by colorful homes nestled on the mountainous coastline. Just a short walk up a flight of cobblestone stairs, you get the region’s favorite postcard view.

The town stretches across a vertical axes where steep staircases are the only means to move around the town.

The village sits on the upper edge of Italy’s boot, where the water is untouched and translucent. While these are only a few of the magnificent views to see in the city of Riomaggiore, it is easy to see why this is one of the most popular destinations in the world.
