Valparaíso is less than a two hour drive from the capital of Chile, Santiago and is a major cultural hub and education center for this country. This is where I lived the past few months and it has grown to become a home to me. Due to its central location, one may take weekend trips to travel all over Chile from Valparaiso. All the way to the Atacama desert in the north to the beautiful natural area of Pucon in the south, and many places in between.
La Campana, a mountain and national park only a short train ride away from Valparaíso, is a fun day trip to take. Full of trees and fresh air, this is the perfect quick get away from the city life. Also, there are dogs there waiting to accompany you on your hike!
Chile, running down the western cost of South America, contains all different types of natural environments. From the driest desert in the world, Atacama Desert, all the way down to the snowy mountains of Patagonia, connected by countless number of beaches, Chile has it all and is the perfect place for an avid explorer. For this reason I will return to Chile, to visit friends, and to visit a culture and a land that I have come to know and love.
