A Photographic Journey Through Barcelona: You Choose Your Own Path

Maria Brannon is a student at Texas State University and an ISA Photo Blogger. She is studying abroad abroad with ISA in Barcelona, Spain.

Deciding to study abroad is the first big decision of many you will encounter in your college career. You only have a short amount of time in your host country but the decisions you make will change not only who you are, but your entire outlook of the world. You’re a stranger to a new city and if there’s a time to get uncomfortable and put yourself out there, it’s now! Use studying abroad to leave behind any conceptions of you thought you were and find who you truly are and want to be. I encourage everyone studying abroad to explore and enjoy the absolute most of the short time you’ll be there. So whether it be trying new food, learning the language, traveling to new cities, or meeting new people; Just have fun. All of these experiences will shape you to be the best version of YOU!

The beautiful gardens of Park Güell were designed by the famous artist Antonio Gaudí.

The winding corridors of Park Güell which Gaudí supposedly designed to feel as if you were inside the belly of a dragon!

The Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi. This gorgeous landmark can be found in the ancient streets of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter.

Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria

The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, otherwise known simply as La Boqueria, is the most famous outdoor market in Barcelona. Upon entering, you will be greeted with a rainbow of beautiful colors of all of the fruit and vegetables while enjoying the smells of all of the delicious foods.

Parc del Laberint d’Horta

The Parc del Laberint d’Horta or the Barcelona Labyrinths is a quiet sanctuary filled with seemingly endless gardens. It’s a hidden gem in Barcelona and it’s actually the oldest park in Barcelona dating all the way back to 1791! I recommend getting lost in the Labyrinths for as long as possible!
